Northrop Grumman: Guidance, Navigation, and Control Engineer

  • Redesigned Monte Carlo Tool in Python to create parameter perturbations for satellite simulations and improve tool runtime efficiency
  • Upgraded Reaction Wheel Emulator/Simulator to be substitute for Flight HW (dynamic,  temperature models) to mitigate effects on GEO spacecraft timeline (Verification, Certification, Troubleshooting HW/SW in LabVIEW
  • Analyzed Monte Carlo Simulations for Rendezvous, Proximity, Operations, and Docking (RPOD), Delta-V, and Attitude Hold scenarios to optimize GNC Flight Software
  • Integration/Testing/HIL experience with Star Trackers (STA), Coarse Sun Sensors, IMUs, and RWAs (upgrading HIL Simulation with testing environment for GEO spacecraft)
  • Mission Operations/Launch Operations support for NG-16 (Cygnus Commercial Resupply Mission) – ~ 32 minutes I’m the third guy from the bottom right (front row seats!)

The Boeing Company: Mechanical/Hydraulics Actuation Systems Engineer

  • Developed kinematic model and performed static analysis of truck position actuator forces for 747, 767, and 777
  • Provided cost-savings recommendations for Nose Landing Gear Door Design by developing ADAMS load analysis model
  • Updated 25 year’s worth of 767/777/777X electromechanical actuation components (25+ parts) drawings/test procedures to latest Boeing standards/requirements/GD&T.
  • Role in the Goal: For a control engineer understanding the plant and its actuators is helpful for considering controlling limitations and tradeoffs.

PORTFOLIO

Here’s a more extensive version of my portfolio and projects. Below you’ll find videos related to my coursework and internship projects. Enjoy!

PROJECTS

ME 552: Mechatronics System Design (2018)

A hands-on course that exposed me to the classical control and modern control techniques of PID, Lead-Lag Compensators, and LQR control.

  • Controlled Magnetic Levitation and Inverted Pendulum systems by designing/tuning/validating MATLAB/Simulink/LabVIEW Controllers through root locus and SISO tool analysis
  • Designed and verified Lead-Lag Compensator using op amps, resistors capacitors
  • Troubleshooted LabVIEW Hardware-In-Loop (HIL) controllers and embedded system for collecting stepper motor, DC motor, IMU sensor fusion data

Skills: MATLAB/Simulink, LabVIEW, classical control, optimal control (LQR)

Nokia Intern Robotics Challenges

Led robotics team to first place finish!

One of the challenges (TASK 2) was programming the robot to find the shortest path to the center of box and orient robot in starting configuration. Box sizes and robot starting location could vary.

  • Used C to program Arduino robot’s ultrasonic and infrared sensors to optimize routes
  • Programmed robot’s servos to optimize odometry and become proficient in Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) control

FlexDex Surgical Project (2017)

Senior Design Project:

  • Minimized surgical tool inaccuracies by programming electromechanical system’s motor and sensors via Arduino
  • Reduced end effector inaccuracies by rapid prototyping of purely mechanical torque transmission system
  • Improved user comfortability and tool securement by designing variable transmission for jaw actuation system in SolidWorks

Here’s a video the company put on youtube.

Skills: CAD/3D Modeling, SolidWorks, C/C++
